Prince Releases Sign o’ the Times
The music world has various musicians that reach special moments that fans should remember one of them is Prince. He was a jazz singer that reached worldwide fame in the 1980’s. According to thisdayinmusic.com yesterday was when the singer released his ninth album titled Sign o’ the Times. This album had three top ten songs “If I Was Your Girlfriend”, “U Got the Look”, (with Sheena Easton) and the title track “Sign o’ the Times”. If I Was Your Girlfriend –
· Prince developed a female persona named Camille putting his vocals at a high pitch.
· Susan Rogers who was Prince’s engineer spoke with Uncut and stated that she give the artist her opinion saying that she never heard a man say that and women would like to hear it.
U Got the Look –
· Prince didn’t write this song as a duet, but after Sheena Easton sung “Sugar Walls” he talked to her about being the backup on the song. The moment Easton sang her parts, Prince wanted to keep it as a duet.
· The two musicians helped each other both on songs. Two years earlier Prince gave Easton “Sugar Walls” song. This became a big US hit for Easton.
Sign o’ the Times –
· The song title comes from a name of a magazine Signs of the Times. It was published by Seventh-day Adventists, it helps Christians to enjoy their lives as they wait for Jesus to return.
· The song shares images of drugs, violence, and AIDS. During this period in the United States, these types of issues were all over the news. Prince wanted to show that America was in the dark when Reagan was in office.
